Protect the Sacred White Buffalo! Create a White Buffalo Protection Act
We are seeking national protection status for the White Buffalo. Similar to The Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act of 1940. (16 U.S.C. 668-668d).
On May 9, 2016. President Obama signs National Bison Legacy Act into law the resolution declaring the bison the national mammal of the United States.
We want to take it one step further and add a protection status for the White Buffalo. and to make it illegal for anyone to hunt this sacred animal.
It is well known what the significance of the White Buffalo means to many indigenous Nations.
Among Native American tribes, especially the Plains Indians, the buffalo is considered a sacred animal and religious symbol. "The creation stories of where buffalo came from put them in a very spiritual place among many tribes. The buffalo crossed many different areas and functions, and it was utilized in many ways. It was used in ceremonies, as well as to make tipi covers that provided homes for people, utensils, shields, weapons and parts were used for sewing with the sinew."
The Lakota, Dakota and Nakota (Sioux) consider the birth of a White Buffalo to be the return of White Buffalo Calf Woman, their primary cultural prophet and the bringer of their "Seven Sacred Rites". Among the Mandan and Hidatsa, the White Buffalo Cow Society was the most sacred of societies for women.
